Cookies Policy
In this Policy we explain:
- What cookies are;
- How we use cookies;
- How you are able to control cookies;
What are cookies And What Are They used For
Cookies are pieces of information that are sent to your browser for storing (in your browser) - they can be used for a number of purposes, including, but not limited to:
- On-Line ordering systems;
- Website customisation;
- Website visitor Tracking;
- Website affiliate tracking.
Cookies are not to be confused with Ad*ware, sp*yware, virus*es or similar nasties that even we at SIMsurprise do not like.
Cookies are harmless and are used for perfectly legitimate reasons - targeted advertising based on for example postcode, or county (state), or town / city, and for buying items by placing items into a shopping cart - so that when you go to "Check-out" your items will still be in your cart,
How we use cookies
Here at SIMsurprise.co.uk we use cookies for the following purposes:
-
Shopping Cart Function: Successful use of our ordering / purchase system - ensuring that products that are added to your cart remain there until you visit your cart to either checkout or remove products. If you have cookies disabled, or not allowed, your purchase(s) may not be possible;
- Website development: We endeavour to make SIMsurprise as accessible to as many users as possible - not just from our own point of view, but also from the original World Wide Web developer's point of view to make the World Wide Web " . . .accessible to all . . ." so by using cookies we are able to ascertain what browsers are used to visit our website and then optimize our site for as many web browsers as possible, as well as track what countries our visitors are visiting from;
- Affiliate link tracking: - some of our advertisements / links are from, or for, third parties. In order for these parties to know where referrals have been referred from they will use cookies.
How you are able to control cookies
Cookies can be controlled in as many ways as there are browsers, and versions of each browser.
Control of Cookies is typically measured in whether cookies can be stored in your browser or not. If they can, then also measured in how long the cookies are stored for.
Cookies, if enabled, can sometimes be set to be deleted when you close your browser (if this is a function enabled in your browser), or after a set time for example one week, or when the cookie expiry time has arrived.
When setting your browser cookie settings your browser settings may have intermediate steps, or stages, allowing a degree of storage or use ranging from low, low-medium, medium, medium-high, or high use or storage, or only from Trusted Sites.
Other browsers will allow you to set cookies to something to the effect of: "Ask everytime before using or storing cookies" - this will let you decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not to allow the cookie(s) to be used or stored.
Firefox:
Go to Tools, select Options, select Privacy.
There is a list of "Check Boxes": to refuse cookies uncheck: "Accept Cookies From Sites". To allow cookies check this option plus check the "Accept third party cookies" option.
Alternatively, on newer versions of Firefox you can go to the Tools at the top navigation bar. Select "Options", select "Privacy". part of the way down are the options to "Clear your recent history" and to "Remove individual cookies".
Safari
Go to Edit, select Preferences, select Security.
Find: "Accept Cookies": check the circle that applies to how you wish cookies to be saved:
- Always;
- Never;
- Only from sites I visit.
Opera
Select Tools select Internet select Advanced.
From the Left hand column select: Cookies and then choose from the two options:
- Delete new cookies when exiting Opera;
- Ask me before accepting cookies;
Google Chrome
Select Tools (The spanner symbol near the top right corner).
Select Under The Bonnet section on left hand side of the page and select theContent Settings tab, then select Cookies. Cookies can then be set.
Other Browsers
To list all browsers and all versions of each browser would be a virtually impossible task
To control cookies, or learn more about cookies, you may like to visit AboutCookies.org. which gives to a lot of other information about cookies such as Cookie Frequently Asked Questions.
Related Policy: We suggest you also read our Privacy Policy.
The Law on Cookies
Recently, the European Union law on Cookies changed.
Some aspects of the new law, such as how to actually comply, are still unclear.
Enforcement of the new law has been assigned to the Information Commissioner's Office sometimes referred to as the ICO - (who, ironically, have to comply with the law themselves).
