What You Should Know About Mobile Phone Safety

Mobile Phones And Safety

Mobile phones are a big part in everyday life. Keeping in touch with loved ones, friends, family, and clients. In emergencies, they can be used to contact emergency (Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade) and vehicle breakdown services. Using a hand-held mobile telephone clearly means that we have one hand that is not being used to control our vehicle. The conversation itself distracts our mind from the road and what is happening on it.

Over the last few years the law has tightened up with regards to the use of hand-held mobile telephones while in charge of a moving motor vehicle.

At the time of writing this article, first time penalties now include a 3 points endorsement on your driving license and a £60.00p fine.

Is any phone call worth the penalties mentioned, plus the additional financial cost of increased insurance premiums as a result of conviction ?

Is a call worth the distress of an accident causing damage to property, or even injury to people - perhaps injury to yourself - or something worse than injury ?

With this in mind SIMsurprise would like to encourage you to use your mobile phone with consideration for the safety of yourself and others, and of course with consideration for the law.

If you absolutely must use a mobile telephone while driving - invest in a hands free kit allowing you to keep both hands for controlling your motor vehicle.

The cost of a hands-free kit far out-ways the cost of:

  • A penalty fine;
  • 3 points on your license;
  • Higher insurance premiums upon conviction;
  • Injury/death to/of yourself or someone else;

Naturally, because SIMsurprise is in the business of selling mobile telephone SIM cards - we do not want to put you off using your mobile telephone, or indeed buying your first or subsequent mobile telephone, which will need a SIM card.

To help you enjoy using your Mobile Phone and SIM card for a long time, without you having a driving accident or driving related court appearance, SIMsurprise recommends that you do not:

  • Answer your mobile phone while driving;
  • Make any calls while driving;
  • Read, write, or send text messages while driving;

If you need to use your mobile phone continue to drive until you can stop and park up safely - then use your phone.

If you are interested in investing in a Bluetooth Hands-free Headset for your mobile phone, perhaps you would like to browse a selection of Bluetooth Headsets supplied by The Carphone Warehouse which are promoted by SIMsurprise.

Remember: Waiting at traffic lights, or while in queuing traffic, is also using a mobile phone while driving.

Exceptions

The only exception to using a mobile phone while driving is for a driver to dial 999 in a genuine emergency when it is impractical to stop and make a call.
